In what has been a much anticipated revealing, Volkswagen finally showed us what the next Golf will look like, taking the wraps off speculation that the Golf 7 was to be a radical redesign.
The new design stays true to the Golf's roots, and gives the car a more elegant and sophisticated look which should appeal to the variety of consumers which will buy the car.
The Golf 7 is the first such VW to use the new MQB platform, which will be shared across the board with other VW Group models. Benefits to the new MQB are that the Golf 7 is some 100 kilograms lighter, more strong, slightly wider, shorter in height, and improved in safety. There is no word yet on the Golf 7 GTI's details, but rest assured it should come with more power as standard compared with the current version.
Word is that the Golf 7 will go on sale in Europe at the end of the year, with it coming to Canada sometime in late 2013 as a 2014 model. Engines for the Canadian as well as the United States market will include the 1.8TFSI and new 2.0TFSI built at the new engine factory located in northern Mexico.
