The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is hitting showrooms as this is being written, and represents the first major update to the Jetta in almost 8 years, the last being with the MK6 Jetta which hit the market back in 2011.
All new for the 2019 model year, the Jetta brings modern styling with the familiar VW look and feel. It is now based on the familiar MQB platform that undermines the current Golf. Carryover items from the previous Jetta include the 1.4 TSI engine, as well as some suspension and other components, but mostly, this Jetta is all new. Available with either a standard and new for this model year 6-speed manual transmission, or a eight-speed automatic with start-stop function, the 1.4 TSI makes 147 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque. It also offers very good fuel economy in the range of 5.9 litres per 100/km highway and around 7.0 litres per 100/km city.
The starting price for the 2019 Jetta is set at $20,995 in Canada, which is a considerable value considering it comes pretty well loaded with many high-tech features and modern touches, such as full LED headlights and taillights.
