What exactly is the Ford Edge Sport, and what is its mission? Having test driven one for a week, I was left with this question. It's a midsize crossover, a little larger than the Escape, but small enough to park in your garage. However unlike the Escape, you can get the Edge with a potent 2.7 V-6 EcoBoost, which for the Edge Sport pumps out a simply amazing 315 horsepower! It also has 350 pound-feet of torque on hand, so whatever the situation, there is power on demand all the time.
This is all well and good however, you have to ask, is this even needed, is it practical, heck even economical? Well, I have to say that in my weekly test, I managed to average just over 12 liters per 100 kms. This is not that bad overall, however I was not being overly aggressive, and to be truthful, when you are just taking the kids to school or going to the shops, this power is not really needed. But one does not buy an Edge Sport for fuel economy, one buys it simply for driving pleasure, or at least power pleasure! If you really want an economical Edge, get the standard one with the 2.0 EcoBoost inline four. This was my impression, as the power this thing makes is addictive. If you really step on it however, you will pay the piper, which has always been the crux of the turbocharged gasoline engine.
What Ford has done is create a fun crossover with the ability to embarrass sports cars two times its price. This is something that cannot be overlooked. The Edge is a comfortable, well made vehicle that will serve you good. Just be prepared to spend a bit more on gasoline, which is not a bad thing when one is having fun.
Price as tested before tax: $57,239
Pros:
Trivia? Can you spot the other Ford product in the main photo? Can you guess the year and model? Check our social media feeds for the answer in the next couple of weeks.

Pros:
- Fast as heck, comfortable interior, and easy to drive when you simply want to get from point A to point B.
- Good handler. The firmer suspension and larger wheels really does allow you to take the corners better.
- Nice seats!
- Sucks fuel like a drunken sailor.
- Do you really need a midsize SUV to go fast? If you want speed, buy an Focus ST or RS. Or buy the Edge Sport!
- Although firm, the suspension does suffer from a pretty gnarly crashing effect. Blame the low profile tires.
